Following the release of Dora Pejacevic’s main symphonic compositions (998 38 73), which were immediately recognized as »symphonic gems« (klassik. com 4 / 11), our Pejacevic edition now turns to her chamber music, a body of works occupying an important place in her overall oeuvre. These works represent the Croatian composer’s first systematic occupation with the classical genres of the string quartet (two works), piano quartet and piano quintet (one work each), violin sonata (two compositions), cello sonata (one opus), and piano trio (two works). The piano is the dominant instrument; works for winds are not extant in her compositional papers. The Piano Trio op. 29 of 1910 already displays a mature, highly expressive, fully formed chamber compositional texture and a perfect command of classical form. You’ll never forget the theme of the first movement: a genuine treat for the listening ear! Pejacevic’s Cello Sonata op. 35 from 1913 (revised in 1915), her only such work, is also a brilliant composition full of big sound and dramatic effects. And you can look forward soon to more chamber music by this impressive composer!
