The four pieces on this recording represent Vaughan Williams in his "Pastoral" mode harking back to an England of a previous age by predominantly folk influences. With perhaps the exception of the Oboe Concerto(written for Leon Goosens) the other pieces on this CD are evergreen pieces of English 20th Century orchestral music. Superbly performed by the Consort of London under Robert Haydon Clark, this was a landmark Collins Classics issue.
