Years ago, percussionist Jonathan Haas commissioned Philip Glass to compose his Concerto Fantasy for Two Timpani (OMM0014) which has turned out to be one of Glass's most frequently performed concert works having been performed over 100 times.
Continuing his investment in Philip Glass's music as both a performer and educator, Haas, acting as director of New York University's Steinhardt Percussion Program, worked with Josh Quillen and NYU Steel to create the arrangements and recording of Philip Glass's piano etudes on steel drums.
The result is NYU STEEL PLAYS PHILIP GLASS, a fantastic re-imagining of Glass's music, giving new light to the color and structure of this very popular piano repertoire.
