Few if any conductors of our age had the versatility and sheer gusto that Leonard Bernstein brought to so varied a repertoire. Who, if anyone, excelled so consistently with such diverse composers as Stravinsky, Mahler, Haydn, Schumann, Sibelius, Gershwin, Beethoven, and Hindemith?
