Sergei Prokofiev’s works reflect the Soviet Union’s tempestuous 20th c. domestic history in its entirety, from its greatest and most glorious accomplishments to its most bitter and tragic events. His symphonic heritage (including the seven symphonies composed between 1917-52) is one of the great legacies in classical music literature. These works were recorded for a legendary Melodiya project between 1965–67 by Gennady Rozhdestvensky led Moscow Radio Symphony Orchestra of the USSR. The recording of his seventh and final symphony was awarded the French “Grand Prix du Disque”.
