Baden Powell is considered to be Brazil¹s greatest guitarist; an astonishing, unique, erudite player, particularly noted for combining classical guitar music with Afro-Brazilian rhythms and jazz chord progressions. 'Baden In Prelude' combines material from sessions with Alaide Costa and Lucio Alves that the guitarist contributed in 1960; important historical long out of print recordings from the dawn of bossa nova. Throughout, Baden Powell's playing is seductive and magical. Alaide Costa was brought to the forefront of Brazilian music by João Gilberto, who saw in her a perfect vehicle for the emergent bossa movement. Costa had a lightness and subtlety that must have seemed to João's ears as tailor-made for the new music they were creating. 'Joia Moderna', her third album is a work of artistic maturity and one that can justifiably claim to be the genre's lost masterpiece. João Gilberto's regard for Luico Alves was such that he always took his albums to the great singer to hear; as a disciple might when getting the approval of his master. Alves had a long and successful career and 'A Noite De Meu Bem' is a dark, rich, sultry set that is one of his finest achievements.
