program of the Ferrara Ensemble. Both the
supereminence of German instrumentalists,
famous throughout Europe since the fourteenth-
century, and the birth of the polyphonic
Tenorlied are themes of this recording, with
its sound-picture blending the fading Age of
Chivalry with the new spirit of Renaissance
Humanism.
