For a musician with a long experience of group work and the most diverse forms of collective creation, recording a solo album is anything but a formality. It is a singular, demanding exercise that can bring about unforeseen fields of inspiration and performance, as well as new ways of thinking and feeling. Whether consciously so or not, it is also a soul-searching exercise that prompts the artist to synthesize everything he holds inside, to better assemble, sample and sum it all up. The album Valse & attrape accomplishes this fine undertaking and throws new light on Alain Debiossat, who comes across as both a familiar and an original musician. He is one of the founding pillars of the band Sixun, which has been stirring up the music world for a quarter of a century, as well as a fellow traveller with Orchestre National de Barbès and many such jazz-and-other bands. A saxophonist whose fingers wander towards other instruments (he also plays the flute and rhythm guitar), Debiossat unveils the harmonious multiplicity of his talent on this album revealing the free spirit of a man who fondly embraces all his musical desires.
