Michel Plasson - conductor, Orchestre National du capitole de Toulouse,
A 37-CD set. Limited Edition.
For 30 years Michel Plasson recorded French music exclusively for EMI Classics. This exclusive
box is truly unique as it covers all the masterpieces of French repertoire: concertos by Ravel,
Faure’s Requiem, Berlioz’s Symphonie Fantastique, the Arlesienne and only symphony by Bizet,
Symphony Lalo Spanish etc ... but also rarities such as absolute and Ropartz Magnard symphonies,
sacred music by Gounod, Roussel rarities, and even music for film by Marcel Carne.
Best known for his interpretations of French opera, particularly those of Gounod and Massenet,
Michel Plasson has also received praise for his work in the choral music of Duruflé and Fauré,
and the orchestral works of Magnard, Ravel, and other French composers. He has not, however,
limited himself to the French repertory, having conducted (and recorded) the Rachmaninov
piano concertos with soloist Jean-Philippe Collard, the Brahms Schicksalslied, and works by
Wagner and Verdi.
