The manuscript entitled 'Rimansuglio di Rime Bernesche (1) - to be found in the Estense library of Modene in Italy - is a sort of personal note-book, all written in rhymes by Bellerofonte Castalid. The document is a sequence of love poetry, letters to illustrious personages, prophecies about the destruction of certain Italian towers, complaints and insults (to personal enemies) - which very crude style recalls the audacious 'Decameron' by Boccace - philosophical thoughts on death, a traveller's accounts...This 80 page-volume - the last leaves of which he wrote just a few months before he died in 1649 - is unique, surprising and sometimes moving narrative. Such a testimony gives us the chance to recall a broad outline of the life, the artistic work and the personality of the Italian musician.
