Juno Nominee 2012 - CLASSICAL ALBUM OF THE YEAR: VOCAL OR CHORAL PERFORMANCE
Marie-Josée Lord is a force to be reckoned with. From her gusty laugh to her deeply-held convictions about the mystery of the human voice, she radiates passion. This stunning soprano who looks every inch the diva had very humble beginnings — as an orphan in Haiti. She made her professional debut in 2003, singing Liù in Puccini’s Turandot at Opéra de Québec. In 2004, music lovers were enraptured by her rendition of Mimi in Puccini’s La Bohème at Opéra de Montréal, where she then sang the title role of Puccini’s Suor Angelica in 2006 and Nedda (I Paggliacci) in 2009. She has been heard as Marie-Jeanne in the world premiere of the operatic version of the celebrated musical Starmania (Plamondon/Berger) at Opéra de Québec in 2008, and Opéra de Montréal in 2009. Marie-Josée Lord impresses critics and audiences alike by the depth of her talent and her charming and charismatic personality. Her first CD, recorded with the Orchestre Métropolitain, was released last November, and has been a great success, with over 25,000 copies sold to date. She has been performed her show Bouillon/Jambalaya throughout Québec in 2010-2011.
After a busy year at the Atelier lyrique de l’Opéra de Montréal in 2002, Marie-Josée Lord made her successful debut as Liù (Turandot) at the Opéra de Québec, which she followed with an appearance as Julia (Passionnément) at the Opéra de Rennes. In 2004, she portrayed Mimì (La bohème) at the Opéra de Montréal, returning as Liù later that year. Also in 2004, she was Marie-Jeanne in the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal’s concert version of Starmania, which was repeated at the Palais des Congrès in Paris in 2005; she reprised the role at the Opéra de Montréal last season. Last OdM appearance: Pagliacci (2009).
