Boccherini: Six Sonatas For Cello And Piano
Label: NAXOS Catalog: 8572368 Format: CD Fedor Amosov: cello; Jen-Ru Sun: pianoBoccherini: Cello Sonata in A major, G.13 / Sonata in C major G.6 / Sonata in G major G.5 / Sonata in E flat major, G10 (with cello) / Sonata No. 5 in F major, G.1 / Sonata No. 6 in A major, G.4 (all arranged by Alfredo Piatti) What a fantastic surprise! Here is a disc that I listened to only on a whim, and ended up playing it through twice in succession. These six sonatas, originally written by Boccherini for double bass, were arranged for cello by Alfredo Piatti. The pieces definitely show the influences of Mozart and more so Haydn. They are soothing, lush, and absolutely exquisite. Cellist Fedor Amosov has a wonderful singing tone in his playing and shows solid technique and dexterity throughout. He is accompanied quite unassumingly by Jen-Ru Sun, which is a huge compliment for a collaborative pianist. All in all both musicians team up perfectly to make, in my opinion, one of the best Naxos releases of 2010. Price: $19.98 |
