2011 Juno Award Nominee - ROOTS & TRADITIONAL ALBUM OF THE YEAR: SOLO
Ruth Moody is a JUNO Award-winning songwriter from Winnipeg, MB. Founding member of the internationally renowned, Billboard-charting trio The Wailin’ Jennys and former lead singer of the Canadian roots band Scruj MacDuhk (later becoming The Duhks), she has performed in sold-out venues around the world, made numerous critically-acclaimed albums, and has appeared more than a dozen times on the U.S. radio show A Prairie Home Companion. Ruth was a finalist in the USA Songwriting Competition and was recognized by the International Songwriting Competition for her song “One Voice,” which has been covered by countless artists. In July 2010, Ruth released her highly-anticipated solo album The Garden on Red House Records. Produced by JUNO Award nominee David Travers-Smith and featuring an all-star cast including Kevin Breit, Luke Doucet, Crooked Still, and a guest appearance by The Wailin’ Jennys, it has been met with high praise from critics: “In an era of hard-edged production, this is a soft, pretty recording that wears well with many, many listenings” – Sing Out! “Her seductive soprano is pure joy” – Huffington Post. She is currently touring both solo and with The Wailin’ Jennys.
