The question arises as to whether there exists a true tradition in the interpretation of Debussy's works for piano. My personal feeling is that most pianists are unwilling to build on the pre-existing model, often refusing even to listen to other interpretations than their own. However, speaking for myself as a composer, I learned a great deal from listening closely to the various interpretations of these works. Yet how much easier, I feel, would it be to compose, if one did not have to commit one's ideas to a written score. Betsy jolas French composer
This CD is a collection of historic recordings of the works of Claude Debussy, reproduced from originals made in the first half of the 20th century on wax cylinders, 78 rpm and long-playing records. These recordings are the work of a generation of pianists some of whom were contemporaries of Debussy.
