His unerring sense of melodicism and true blues-infused swing fill each note that he plays. In this exciting live date, he brings two legendary masters to the bandstand. Jimmy Cobb, the longtime drummer for Miles Davis (and the drummer on “Kind Of Blue”) still plays with the veracity of his youth. On piano is the unsung hero, Richard Wyands, who brings an authentic bebop sound to the group and a delicate and tasteful accompaniment. John Webber, the bassist for George Coleman and One For All, rounds out the quartet. Particularly outstanding is the cut of “Stairway To The Stars”, which demonstrates a romantic approach to ballad playing that is all but lost in this generation.  Price: $16.98 |
