Ethan Iverson, the pianist from the highly acclaimed trio The Bad Plus, has put together a fascinating live project featuring the master Tootie Heath on drums for a lengthy set of bebop classics. Iverson approach is studied but never dull. It is a fascinating look at an entirely different facet of Iverson’s musical spectrum. His approach is reminiscent of Lennie Tristano and Paul Bley and some Bud Powell for good measure, but for the most part it is a highly-original approach. The style is lean and melodic and the experience highly satisfying. This is an interesting and well thought out live project.
