This 85th birthday tribute to Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau consists of extracts from two interviews I recorded with the great baritone, in 2000 and 2005, plus some musical illustrations drawn from his EMI legacy. Some parts of the interviews have previously been heard in a documentary I made for the WFMT Radio Network and in the VAI “Close Encounters With Great Singers” series I produced (VAIA 1217), and some parts appeared in an article I wrote for The Gramophone. However, a fair quantity of what appears here has never been heard or published before. We are most grateful to the WFMT Radio Network, VAI, and The Gramophone for kindly agreeing the inclusion here of items that they had previously aired, issued and published. (Jon Tolansky - Producer)
