Mama Africa's greatest hits including "Pata Pata" and "The Click Song"! This carefully compiled collection is unique in that it contains all of Miriam Makeba's best tracks from the early years through to her most recent songs--finally all together on one album! Known throughout the world as Mama Africa, the legendary Makeba has lived an extraordinary life. Born in South Africa, she first made her name as a featured vocalist with the Manhattan Brothers in 1954. Her incredible voice won her the lead role in King Kong, a Broadway-inspired South African musical, which she starred in with Hugh Masekela. She went on to conquer America, where she sang at President Kennedy's birthday and worked with Harry Belafonte to create such classics as "The Click Song" and "Pata Pata." In 1963, after testifying against apartheid before the UN, Makeba was exiled. In 1968, she married Black Panther leader Stokely Carmichael and they fled to Guinea. She returned to prominence when she performed with Paul Simon on 1987's Graceland Tour, and her 2000 album Homeland was a Grammy Award nominee.
