As a Gentleman of the Chapel royal from 1542 to his death in 1585, he produced many compositions in Latin, under both Protestant and Catholic monarchs. His setting of the Lamentations of Jeremiah has become estrablished as one of the summits of the genre - and the interpretation of it by the Deller Consort more than 40 years ago is still unforgetable. |
