Klaus Mertens, one of the leading singers in the Baroque genre, returns to interpret obscure works from the German Baroque. history has not been kind to German Baroque compers not named Bach, so this disc provides an example of the works that have been overshadowed by Bach's mastery. Canatas by Kegel, Wolff, Roemhildt, Donati, as well as one by Telemann, are all included here. Mertens rich, smooth voice giudes us through these works, captivating the ear. The Accademia Daniel plays beautifully on period instruments. A great follow-up recording to Merten's disc of Telemann Bass Cantatas from last year!
