Now, this CD was a surprise! This is something that was ordered in on a whim, and what arrived was pure gold. Trumpet CDs are sometimes hit and miss. You can be assured that anything involving Maurice Andre will be top notch, but when a virtually unknown player such as Gabor Tarkovi graces the cover, you wonder. Well, wonder not. The trumpet playing on this recording is of the highest quality. Such a mellow tone, a sense of emotion in the playing, and an aligity in the playing that is seemless. The Concertos on this disc are all from Italian composers and prove equal to the great Concertos by Handel, Haydn and Hummel. The disc begins with Vivaldi's Concerto in B flat major and is wonderfully performed. A treat on this disc is the inclusion of the works for Soprano and Trumpet by Scarlatti, Vivaldi, and Galuppi, which shows that there is wonderful repertoire for this pairing outside of Handel's 'Let the Bright Seraphim'. Mojica Erdmann sings beautifully and pairs well with Tarkovi's playing. This whole disc was a great treat to listen to. Definitely take the chance on this one!
