What we find here in volume two is more of the same; great modern orchestral music that otherwise would not be heard. Janacek's operas seem to be performed less frequently than in years past, so the two works featured here 'Kata Kabanova' and 'The Markropolous Case' are rarities in a way. The playing on this disc is quite fine, and gives us example of why these two operas were popular at their time. The orcehstral music is solid, which provides a strong foundation for the singers, like Wagner, Verdi, and all the great opera composers. Janacek's music deserves to be heard more, and this disc fills the need.  Price: $19.98 |
