This is a fascinating anthology which shows the richness and variety of music performed at the court of Henry VIII. The programme has been put together by the recorder trio Ensemble Dreiklang Berlin, a group specializing in music from this period, who bring it to vivid life. Included is an instrumental rendition of 'Pastyme with good companye', Henry VIII's only composition to become known beyond his private domain during his lifetime, and also the oldest and most frequently preserved song from the early Tudor period. The disc is a valuable addition to the early music catalogue, as well as a very enjoyable one.
