A very interesting live release of one of the greatest jazz groups in history performing in New York during a landmark period of creativity for Miles and his mates. Recorded live at Birdland, Cafe Bohemia, and one track from Art Ford's "Jazz Party" TV show, this music was recorded between the release of two great albums, Milestones and Kind of Blue. Coltrane is at his best, and the remainder of the group are in fine form to boot. We can hear the contrast between Coltrane's ever-searching harmonic/melodic language and Adderley's blues-based, robust sound. The sound quality is for the most part good. Definitely an intriguing look into the group just before the 1959 release of Kind of Blue and a great addition to the collection for anyone with more than just a passing fancy for this Miles Davis quintet.
