ATMA is thrilled to present Handel Arias, a new recording featuring soprano Karina Gauvin, whose unique voice, remarkable technique, and accomplished musicianship have charmed audiences worldwide from the Royal Opera House in London to Lincoln Center in New York. She is joined by conductor/harpsichordist Alexander Weimann and his newly-formed ensemble Tempo Rubato. Handel Arias is Gauvin’s fifth recording for ATMA and features arias from Handel’s London oratorios inlcuding Messiah, Semele, Samson, Jephta and Solomon, among others. Also included is the gorgeous aria, “Lascia ch’io pianga”, from the opera Rinaldo. Gauvin’s repertoire ranges from the music of J.S. Bach to Luciano Berio, and she has sung with many major orchestras including the Chicago Symphony, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre Symphonique deQuébec, Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, Musica Antiqua Köln, the Minnesota Orchestra, the St-Paul Chamber Orchestra, Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra, Les Violons du Roy, and Accademia Bizantina.
