Disc 2: So What / Miles Runs the Voodoo Down / Blue in Green / Great Expectations / Ife (Slow) / Miles from India

After many years and endless Miles tribute recordings, here is one that stands out from the pack. Inspired by Davis's use of Indian instrumentation on the "On The Corner" sessions, producer Bob Belden concocted the disc at hand, and what a concept it is!
A good lot of these musicians have performed with Miles Davis, McLaughlin, Cobb, Liebman to name a few, and they all turn in great performances. What really stands out is the seamless integration of the Indian instruments into this music. The intro to "So What" renders the piece unrecognizable until Ron Carter brings in the familiar bass melody. This tune is the only appearance for Corea, but what an unforgettable one it is!
The music on this disc is generally from "Bitches Brew" and onward, but "So What" and "All Blues" are both excellent reworkings. The 5/4 sitar intro to "All Blues" is intriguing and leads well into Louiz Banks's take on Bill Evans's solo.
If you are a fan of Miles's music from "In a Silent Way" until the end, this disc will be a wonderful addition to your collection. Even if you are just curious about this project, it is worthwhile purchase as it will garner repeat listenings with new gems discovered every time.
