Puccini: La Bohème

A recording of the world’s most popular opera with the world’s most famous soprano-tenor pairing is hardly an original concept. But it is also one not likely to disappoint. This version is certainly a worthy addition. Though taken from live concert performances, the recording has the superb sound and the forward placement of soloists typical of a studio recording.
- excerpt from Wholenote Magazine review, July 2008
In three concert performances in April 2007, Anna Netrebko, Rolando Villazón, Boaz Daniel and conductor Bertrand de Billy generated the spontaneity and intensity that created chemistry that crackled. The youth of the cast only added to the credibility of Puccini’s classic story. All of this has been captured in this live, but studio like recording. This La Bohème also features the up and coming star, Nicole Cabell, as Musetta.
Previous reviews
This new Boheme reunites Anna Netrebko and Roland Villazon for their first opera recording ince the highly praised La Traviata. "The chemistry between them sizzled from the very first note," raved Die Welt's reviewer after the live Munich performances. Supporting them is an outstanding cast of young rising stars - led by Nicole Cabell's Musetta and Boaz Daniel's Marcello - and the vital, sympathetic conducting of opera specialist Betrand de Billy.
