Jenkins: Stabat Mater

The 'Stabat Mater' is a thirteenth-century Roman Catholic sequence attributed to Jacopone da Todi, its title an abbreviation of the first line, Stabat Mater Dolorosa ("The sorrowful mother was standing"). The Stabat Mater has inspired numerous composers across centuries, but the newest version comes from the renowned Welsh composer Karl Jenkins. Here he continues his trademark use of instruments indigenous to the region, including percussion such as the darbuka and riq and the woodwind duduk.
