In October 2021, the music world was struck by the sad news of the death of one of the most respected conductors of our time - Bernard Haitink. The words "great conductor" and "humility" are not often found together. On the podium, he was not one to show off: a raised finger, a meaningful glance, a hint of a smile was all that orchestras around the world expected from him. One orchestra was particularly close to his heart: the Concertgebouworkest (Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra). In addition to his modesty, his humanity, his musical taste and his honesty towards music, three words come to mind when one thinks of Haitink and his orchestra: sound, confidence and magic. Together, Bernard Haitink and the Concertgebouworkest have created an extensive musical legacy, now presented for the first time in an edition of 113 CDs + 4 DVDs. This limited edition brings together for the first time the Philips, Decca, CBS and EMI studio recordings of one of the most endearing and celebrated conductor-orchestra partnerships, including all of his symphonic cycles from Beethoven to Schumann, piano concertos from Rachmaninoff to Brahms, and includes the premiere releases of their 1984 recording of Brahms' Haydn Variations and Chabrier's "EspaƱa" (1969), as well as selected RCO live recordings as a bonus.
