Cambria Master Recordings is pleased to announce Madeleine Dring - The Lady Composer (Cambria 1245), our second release of Dring's cabaret, radio, and West End Revue works, featuring performances by Dring specialist Wanda Brister, Mezzo-soprano; Courtney Kenny, piano and vocals; Nuala Willis, contralto; and Matt Cooksey, baritone. The English composer Madeleine Dring (1923-1977) is best known for her rhythmic and tuneful piano works, art songs, and works for oboe. However, in the 1950s she also enjoyed writing and performing songs for West End Revues, for radio and the stage. Nearly all the songs on this release are premiere recordings and have not been heard since the close of the original productions. Madeleine Dring - The Lady Composer includes her signature song "The Lady Composer" vocal works from Airs on a Shoestring, The Provok'd Wife, Somebody's Murdered Uncle, (first broadcast over the BBC) and ten other songs from the 1950s. Wanda Brister has been performing the vocal works of Madeleine Dring since the late 1990s and was instrumental in having all the unpublished vocal works printed in 2018 by Classical Vocal Reprints. Cabaret Songs of Madeleine Dring is distributed to the retail music trade in North America by Naxos Distribution and is also available for download and streaming at www.Classicsonline and other standard internet sites offering classical music.
