Quartetto Italiano - The Complete Warner Recording
Label: WARNER CLASSICS
In 1951, when the Quartetto Italiano first visited the United States, composer Virgil Thomson was enthusiastic: "Perfection is the only word to describe this playing." In this collection, which includes their entire discography on Warner Classics, the Quartet demonstrates their mastery of essential Austro-German repertoire as well as Italian music spanning five centuries and works by Debussy, Ravel, Milhaud, Prokofieff and Stravinsky. The catalogue, recorded by the musicians between 1953 and 1959, is complemented by their very first recording: this was made in 1946, when the ensemble was still known as Nuovo Quartetto Italiano. Mastered in 192Hz / 24bit from the original tapes, the collection also includes a number of recordings appearing on CD for the first time.
