The greatest opera star of our time is back: Anna Netrebko releases her first solo album in five years, entitled "Amata dalle tenebre". Around her 50th birthday, the prima donna assoluta presents a dazzling selection of iconic soprano arias by Verdi, Wagner, Strauss, Puccini, Cilea and Purcell at the peak of her powers, including Dido's Lament, Anna Netrebko's first ever Baroque piece in English. Recorded in Milan's famed La Scala Auditorium, with La Scala's Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Riccardo Chailly. Accompanying the audio album on the BluRay edition is an artistic music film that combines four music videos of arias by Verdi, Purcell, Tchaikovsky and Wagner with fragmentary interviews with Netrebko. Shot primarily at Teatro alla Scala in Milan during and immediately after the recording of the album, it explores Anna Netrebko's performative practices of approaching her heroines interpretatively. Framed by an interview in which the singer offers rare insights about herself and the album's music, the film follows the four arias as they are transferred to the screen, each with a unique cinematic aesthetic. Aida, Lisa, Dido and Isolde come to life in a series of visual experiments driven by powerful musical motifs.
