In late 2020 DG’s New Rep team challenged themselves to create something different, a seasonal album covering many of the talented artists and superstars on their roster: and the idea of a christmas album with a twist was born. The result is a credible and diverse mix of music covering an expansive range of repertoire and sounds ‐ with all artists representing their very own compositional and performance signature. The album starts with the famous Oh Holy Night, newly interpreted and with new lyrics sung by Brian Eno, his brother Roger Eno performs all instruments. This piece is followed by a wonderful new interpretation of the Scottisch/Gaelic Christmas Carol Taladh Chriosta, featuring a group of choral singers featuring Grace Davidson. The next piece on the album is a very slow and peaceful icelandic solo piano piece named Sleep for Mama, performed on upright piano by Víkingur Ólafsson. Hailing from Poland, Hania Rani and Dobrawa Czocher have created a dreamy rework of the polish christmas carol Jezus Malusieńki featuring piano, cello and electronics. The piece is followed by a beautiful rework for piano and guitar of the Coventry Carol by Texas based duo Balmorhea. Violinist Mari Samuelsen represents her Norwegian origins with a new version of the christmas carol Mitt hjerte alltid vanker (my heart always wanders) for Violin, Strings, Piano and electronics. Norwegian Singer/Songwriter and composer Ane Brun has created a beautiful choral rendiditon of the famous carol Lo! How a Rose E’er Blooming / Es ist ein Ros' entsprungen. Ane created a beautiful new arrangement just with her own vocals. Ane is followed by composer and pianist Dustin O`Halloran who collaborated with violinist and composer Bryan Senti on a new and very intimate piece called "What Gently Flutters", based on version of an old icelandic christmas folk song. Dutch composer and pianist Abbott has reworked the famous dutch Christmas carol Nu Zijt Wellekome (now, be welcomed!) for choir and electronics. British composer duo Vanbur have created a stunning new version of the British Christmas song Carol Of The Bells. The Berlin based string quartet Classical Sundays perform a new, very slow and festive version of the Chanuka piece Maoz Tzur. Dutch composer and pianist Joep Beving closes the album with an eclectic version of the famous Sinfonia from J.S. Bach´s Christmas Oratorio.
