Bruckner: Symphony #4 / Thielemann
Label: SONY CLASSICAL
Previous recordings of the Bruckner symphonies with the Vienna Philharmonic under Christian Thielemann have been hailed worldwide as musical events. Now the 4th symphony of the cycle is released by Sony Classical. The concert of the Vienna Philharmonic at the Salzburg Festival with this 70-minute symphony, conducted by Thielemann from memory, triggered enthusiasm: "He has every detail in mind, skilfully disposing of waves of increase, damming up the sound before the monumental eruptions. He achieves a miracle in the slow movement. Then, in the scherzo, the Viennese horn players brilliantly tease out Bruckner's wit. Thielemann combines pathos in the best sense with idyllic Ländler bliss. And he does not shy away from bringing out the threatening features of this music, the elemental elemental forces that Bruckner unleashes", wrote the critic of the Bayerischer Rundfunk. This recording, which is also outstanding in terms of sound, was recorded at the Vienna Musikverein.
