It's a group that is unquestionably impressive, and an example of the classic piano trio to boot - a format in which Farnsworth has been successful throughout his history, including collaborations with McCoy Tyner, Cedar Walton, Harold Mabern, Hank Jones, David Hazeltine and many others. Before 2020, it was easy to take New York's thriving and diverse music scene for granted. But as the clubs went dark and an unsettling silence fell over the metropolis, it became vital to keep the music alive as well Farnsworth remained a stalwart jazz warrior, even during the pandemic. His celebratory new album is both a testament to his efforts and a heartfelt tribute to the musical melting pot he's called home for more than three decades. "City of Sounds" comes from a thrilling live concert during Farnsworth's birthday week in February 2021.
