He died four months later in Germany at the age of 36 A brilliant artist of startling originality, Dolphy managed to embody the revolutionary spirit of the avant-garde while remaining firmly grounded in the feel of swing - a rare feat that the five original tracks here capture perfectly, from the quirky swing of the opening Monk tribute "Hat and Beard" to the fast-paced closing track "Straight Up and Down."
