Blues From The Avon Delta
In the lead-up to the British Blues Boom, Saydisc helped the specialist Sunflower, Kokomo and Highway 51 labels get to market before creating the celebrated Matchbox label to release modern British and pre-war American country blues. Matchbox’s first LP, ‘Blues Like Showers of Rain’ was also the first British, acoustic blues LP. The time was right – John Peel plugged it, the major labels picked up on the buzz and snapped up most of the artists – country blues was in. Matchbox expanded by releasing the Austrian Roots label in the UK. Later, came the well-received ‘Bluesmaster Series’. In all, Saydisc issued over 100 blues records.
