The Warner recordings of André Previn in a comprehensive box set As a conductor, pianist, composer and media personality, André Previn's output was distinguished by an enormous range of musical genres and forms of expression. A child prodigy in his native Berlin, he moved to the United States in 1939 and made an early career in Hollywood, winning four Academy Awards. During his tenure as principal conductor of the London Symphony Orchestra (1968-1979), he established himself as a major interpreter of symphonic repertoire, particularly Russian, French and British music - "The very definition of good conducting," Gramophone wrote of his acclaimed LSO version of Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker. The extent of Previn's relationship with the LSO is duly reflected in this 96-CD box set, which includes his entire HMV and Teldec discography, including quite a few CD premieres. Also included are recordings with orchestras such as the Pittsburgh Symphony, Chicago Symphony and Vienna Philharmonic. The collection also showcases Previn's talents as a pianist, both classical and jazz, and offers insights into his character and artistry with the audio documentary "André Previn - A Memoir".
