Arthur Grumiaux (1921-1986) was one of the most important exponents of the so-called Franco-Belgian school of violin playing. He had a pure, refined and elegant performance style and his tone had a beautiful bloom that served him well particularly in Mozart. He had an admirable technical facility that projected assurance and ease, with a clean articulation and a calm flamboyance. Arthur Rubinstein wrote of grumiaux: "One of the great interpreters... Mozart playing brings tears to my eyes." Grumiaux was a “complete musician”. Like Oistrakh, Menuhin and Heifetz, he regularly combined solo playing with chamber music. In particular, the “Grumiaux Trio” was active on stage and in recordings for many years. Boris Schwartz, in his survey of "Great Masters of the Violin" referred to Grumiaux's "sensuous warmth" coupled with "nobility and uncompromising musicianship." All items here are live performances, and some are first release ever.
