Dreamlife of Debris continues the story started on Kit Downes' ECM debut Obsidian and expands and develops their core ideas. But where Obsidian was (almost exclusively) a solo church organ album, it was part of Kit's plan for Dreamlife to put the organ in a broader context and also bring the piano into the larger compositional picture This project primarily involves musicians with whom Downes has long been associated - saxophonist Tom Challenger, cellist Lucy Railton, drummer Seb Rochford - but there is also a musical first encounter: with Norwegian guitarist Stian Westerhus. "I was curious to see how involving different partners would change the direction of the recording."
