“She represents the best, the most intimate, and the most profound in my life,” wrote the famous piano teacher Nadia Boulanger of her younger sister Lili. When Lili Boulanger (1893-1918) won the renowned "Prix de Rome" in 1913, she was the very first woman to be honored with this prize at all. Her far too early death led to her music always being in the shadow of Debussy and Ravel when talking about impressionist music. This release with the Orpheus Vokalensemble is being issued on the occasion of the centenary of her death. Due to her individual musical language, its diversity of color, its metaphorical content and its poetry, Lili Boulanger can be counted as one of Impressionism’s great artists. The world of classical music would have liked to have heard more of her music. The Orpheus Vokalensemble, consisting of singers from all over the world, was founded in 2005. Since then, the ensemble has grown into a significant chamber choir enjoying international respect, and working with renowned choral conductors.
