ISRAEL PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA MEHTA

One of Beethoven’s most celebrated works, the Eroica symphony is a large-scale composition that marked the beginning of the composer’s creative middle period. Written mainly in 1803-1804, the work is grounded in the “classical” symphony tradition, whilst exploring the boundaries of form, length, and harmony. Accordingly, it is a landmark work in the transition between the Classical period and the Romantic period. Zubin Mehta is the Music Director of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. He received his early music education from his father, who founded the Bombay Symphony Orchestra. He enrolled in the Vienna State Music Academy when he was 18 and graduated after three years with a conducting diploma. He began winning international competitions and conducted the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic at age 21. He began gaining worldwide recognition in the 1960s when he started substituting for celebrated maestros throughout the world. This recording was made live in 2013.
