Label: Catalog: ABCD 414 Format: COMPACT DISC Ostrobothnian Chamber Orchestra; Kangas, JuhaDedications may be a mere matter of courtesy, but like commissions, they may also make a piece of music more personal and individual. This is evident from works composed for the Ostrobothnian Chamber Orchestra and its founder and honorary conductor Juha Kangas. Regardless of composer and genre, these works have the profound, unaffected sound associated with the orchestra and an ethos founded on powerful experiencing and frank communication. The included works, by composers such as Kalevi Aho, Onute Narbutaite, and others, span nearly the entirety of the ensemble’s existence. Kalevi Aho’s “…frozen are the restless waters” was written in 1995, just six years after the ensemble’s founding, while Erkki Slamenhaara wrote his Elegia II for two string quartets, which is dedicated to Juha Kangas, in 1963. The newest work is Peteris Vasks’ “Musica serena,” composed in 2015. Price: $27.98 |
