Mainzer Virtuosi is a young, multinational string ensemble, founded in 2007 at the Hochschule fur Musik in mainz by their artistic director Professor Anne Shih. Their repertoire spans the Baroque to the present day, with particular emphasis on performances of music of the 20th and 21st centuries. European and Canadian composers have written works specifically for them. In addition to playing predominantly without a conductor, the group is also distinguished by the ability to supply all the string soloists from amongst their own ranks, many of whom have already won international competitions. This has lead to a certain predilection for concertante pieces. This release features compositions by Stale Kleiberg, Peter Seabourne, Kurt Atterberg, and Sir Malcom Arnold.
