Bhangra is a folk dance of Punjab and is an integral part of Punjabi culture. It originates in the North-Indian state Punjab and is believed to have its roots in the Thanksgiving celebrations following the harvest. Traditional Bhangra is centered around the “dhol,” a double-headed drum. It is a powerful dance, full of teasing, fun and the exuberance of Punjabi life. It has become part of urban culture and is danced and sung at wedding parties. Recently Bhangra has moved into the pop scene and a new, modern kind of Bhangra has evolved, which quickly conquered the charts.
