Georgia Woodwind Quintet

The Georgia Woodwind Quintet is Ensemble in Residence at the Hugh Hodgson School of Music at the University of Georgia. The quintet’s newest release, Chroma, explores the vast colors and characters in works from the woodwind quintet repertoire. From the lush and enchanting quintet of Theodor Blumer to the angular and vibrant first quintet of Alvin Etler, this album covers a broad range of emotional expression and instrumental timbres. This is the first commercially available recording of the Wind Quintet No. 1 by Gordon Jacob, and the Georgia Woodwind Quintet is particularly excited to bring this charming and colorful work to a more prominent status within the quintet repertoire. Since its founding in 1967, the Georgia Woodwind Quintet has maintained an active schedule performing a wide range of woodwind chamber music; from the early quintets of Danzi and Reicha to twenty-first century compositions.
