PETROV BULGARIAN NATIONAL RADIO MALE CHOIR BULGARIAN NATIONAL RADIO SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA TABAKOV

The fifth release in the series “Dmitri Shostakovich. Symphonies” includes Symphony No. 13 in B-flat Minor, Op. 113, “Babi Yar” on the poems by Yevgeny Yevtushenko. Shostakovich was shaken by the poems, and began working on the symphony in 1962. The work includes five poems: “Babi Yar,” “Humour,” “In The Store,” “Fears,” and “Career.” The poem “Fears” was written by Yevtushenko specifically for the symphony. The recording is again of the conductor Emil Tabakov and the Bulgarian National Radio Symphony Orchestra, together with the bass singer Vladimir Petrov (Belarus) and the Bulgarian National Radio Male Choir. Vladimir Petrov (Belarus) graduated from the Ural Conservatory in Yekaterinburg. He started his artistic career in the Omsk Musical Theatre. Since 1992 he is a soloist of the Belarusian National Opera and Ballet. His repertoire includes composers such as Mozart, Verdi, Puccini, Liszt, Tchaikovsky, Bizet, Leoncavallo, etc. He has received awards at international competitions in Sofia, Monte Carlo and Saint Petersburg. Critics appraised his appearances – “His wonderful balanced baritone has steady strong heights and depths and therefore his splendid timbre is very suitable for the role of Onegin.”
