This recording is of a live broadcast of a recital which was held to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Karol Szymanowski’s birth in 1982. Szymanowski’s Piano Sonatas Nos. 2 and 3 are featured, as well as his Mythes- Trois poems for Violin and Piano, Op. 30. Sviatoslav Richter was one of the most respected pianists of the twentieth century, and is now a collector’s icon. Similarly, Oleg Kagan led a much too short career, dying at age 43 in 1990, but is still considered to be one of the greatest brilliant violinists hailing from Russia.
