This new release from MPR is a delightful collection of concertos for wind and brass instruments featuring the outstanding soloists of the internationally famous Royal Norwegian Navy Band. Conducted by clarinet virtuoso Leif Arne Tangen Pedersen, this is a varied programme, including a rare recording of the three original ‘concertos’ with military band (Trombone, Oboe and Clarinet) by Rimsky-Korsakov and three excellent transcriptions of works by Gliere (trumpet), Lebedev (bass trombone) and Arutiunian (Tuba.)This is superb playing and the musicianship of the band under Pederson’s expert and sensitive direction is second to none.
