Zubov, the Russian Institute for the History of the Arts is one of Russia’s most important repositories of musical treasure. The holdings of the institute include more than 36,000 volumes of music, among which are a number of nineteenth century works for wind band and other instrumental works that were presented as gifts for different tsars of composed for royal events. The most important of these works are three marches for band composed by Gioachani Rossini in 1834 for Tsar Nicholas I. “Music For The Tsars” includes a dozen never before recorded works from the institute’s archives, including the three Rossini marches. The recordings were made by faculty and students at the University of Georgia’s Hugh Hodgson School of Music, including the UGA Wind Ensemble, The Hidgson Singers, and a number of faculty members.
